Merry Sunbeams was the title of a lavish, fully illustrated collection of “tales and stories, children’s songs, music, amusements, and riddles” published in London in 1876. As its title suggests, the book contained all manner of entertainments for children, from nursery rhymes to moral tales and fables, and even the sheet music to traditional hymns and ballads.
Amid all of the fun, the book also contained a handful of fairly tricky logic puzzles and enigmas. An abridged version of one of these appears below. Can you work out what wildflower is being described here?
