Coming up with a name for a band can be challenging, and not all first choices stick. Green Day originally performed under the name Sweet Children. They changed it to Green Day to avoid confusion with another Bay Area band, Sweet Baby. Green Day likely came from the West Coast slang term for a day heavy on marijuana use.

But Green Day isn’t the only plant-related band name. See if you can tell which of these are poisonous plants and which are indie bands in the quiz below.

Why do band names tend to be so distinctive? It’s sometimes borne out of a need to avoid being confused with existing performers. You may think there’s only one Nirvana, but there are at least two: A 1960s band with that name challenged the Kurt Cobain-led ’90s grunge group, claiming they had ownership of the brand. (The matter was settled out of court, and both Nirvanas remained Nirvana.)
