Michael Blanding is a senior fellow at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University, and the author of The Map Thief: The Gripping Story of an Esteemed Rare-Map Dealer Who Made Millions Stealing Priceless Maps (Gotham, June 2014). The book tells the story of notorious rare-map thief E. Forbes Smiley III, along with the history of cartography of North America.
