Little Caesars Is Offering a Batman-Shaped Pizza Because Hey, Sure
For decades, what’s separated pizza franchise chain Little Caesars from pizza giants like Pizza Hut or Domino’s is how well they cater to the ravenously hungry. At most Little Caesars locations, consumers can stop in and pick up an already-baked pie idling in a warming area without a wait.
You can still do that, but now you can do it with a pizza-calzone combo that’s shaped like Batman’s insignia.
This week, the chain announced that they’ll be offering The Batman Calzony, a $7.99 bat-shaped pie intended to promote the forthcoming release of The Batman on March 4.
Since it’s logistically difficult to create a pizza shaped like Batman himself, the pizza is more of a bowtie configuration resembling the character’s chest plate. On either side of the pizza is a calzone filled with garlic white sauce, cheese, and pepperoni.
Once you tear into the pizza, it would appear to lose much of its novelty value and become another grim scene of discarded crust and grease stains. And considering the outside food rules of most movie theaters, you probably won’t be able to eat it while watching The Batman, which reportedly has nearly a three-hour running time.
The Batman film franchise has had a long relationship with fast food endorsements, with the Tim Burton films getting the McDonald’s Happy Meal treatment. (McDonald’s was famously irate with 1992’s Batman Returns, feeling that the grotesque imagery of the Penguin chomping on raw fish wasn’t a great way to move food tie-ins.)
Little Caesars is no stranger to novelty pizzas. In the 1990s, they offered a Big! Big! Pizza, which was intended to compete with similarly huge offerings from other chains. Theirs measured 11.25 inches by 22.5 inches.
The Batman Calzony will be available only for a limited time.
