11 Adult Summer Camps to Make You Feel Like a Kid Again
Great news for anyone who considers themselves to be young at heart: It turns out summer camp isn’t just for kids anymore. Kids-at-heart can enjoy everything from luxury glamping experiences in California to a weekend full of all things sci-fi. These 11 adult summer camps were made especially for grown-ups, whether you’re ready to rock out at fantasy band camp, learn about meat cookery and organic farming, or escape the city to party down by a lake. (Some of these summer camps are scheduled for fall 2021 due to various COVID-19 restrictions and precautions.)
1. Club Getaway // Connecticut
Club Getaway is a camper’s paradise beside a 300-acre lake in Kent, Connecticut, a mere 90 minutes from New York City. Food is provided by expert chefs and all your lodging, activities—volleyball, yoga, tie-dye t-shirt making, or paint n’sip classes, anyone?—and admission to any onsite events and parties are included. All attendees must be fully vaccinated as you’ll be staying in shared cabins of up to four people. Prices vary by weekend but start at $399.
2. Space Academy // Alabama
While the Adult Space Academy program is currently sold out, a waitlist is still available for Adult Astronaut Training, a one-day experience available on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Take on training exercises and challenges just like a real astronaut, see some aircraft up close, enjoy a show in the planetarium, and check out the rest of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama (museum admission and lunch are included). Prices start at $299.
3. Camp No Counselors // Pennsylvania and California
Camp No Counselors offers two sessions for 2021: There's one Labor Day weekend in northeastern Pennsylvania, two hours from New York City, and a weekend escape about 90 minutes from Los Angeles from October 8–11. Both three-night, all-inclusive extravaganzas include all food, lodging, and traditional summer camp activities like archery, yoga, adventure courses, and campfires, as well as live music and plenty of happy hours. Prices start at $750 for the California camp and $800 for the Pennsylvania camp.
4. Epic Nerd Camp // Maryland
Fans of fantasy, gaming, and all things sci-fi, rejoice can gather at Camp Ramblewood in Darlington, Maryland, from October 8–12. Epic Nerd Camp lets you spend five days and four nights enjoying live-action role-play games, playing tabletop games, getting creative with crafting, and learning skills like swordplay, archery, and everything else it takes to be a hero in real life. Prices start at $799 and include activities, food, and lodging in either all-male, all-female, or mixed-sex cabins.
5. Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp // Florida
Attend Q&A sessions and classes taught by actual rock star camp counselors, jam out with them at rehearsals, and perform for a live audience at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, happening November 11–14 and December 2–5. It’s pretty pricey—rates for this three-night rock-a-thon start at $5599 and cover everything but your hotel stay—but if you want to rock out all weekend with Aerosmith’s Joe Perry or Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, it’s worth every penny.
6. Camp Chief Ouray // Colorado
Camp Chief Ouray is open to women over the age of 18 who are seeking adventure in the great outdoors. It's located about two hours from Denver in Granby, Colorado. Spend the weekend of August 27–29 trying your hand at archery, canoeing, fishing, creating colorful tie-dye masterpieces, rock climbing, zip-lining, and mountain biking, learning outdoor survival skills, and going for hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park. Prices start at $325.
7. Belcampo’s Meat Camp // California
Calling all carnivores: Belcampo’s Meat Camp, happening this year from September 3-5 and 24-26, in Gazelle, California, gives you the chance to learn the ins and outs of regenerative organic farming, including butchery and knife skills, meat cookery, open-fire grilling techniques and other sustainable practices. Enjoy farm-to-table meals and spring for the $1499 glamping option to stay in a luxury tent—prices are based on double occupancy and start at $899 if you choose to bring your own tent.
8. Nature Camp // Virginia
Celebrate your love of nature in Virginia’s George Washington National Forest at Nature Camp, a five-day environmental education series for adults from August 20–24. With a mix of hands-on field studies, classroom lectures, and crafting projects, you’ll take part in bird walks in the morning and evening, as well as folk singing, an Appalachian string band workshop, several short hikes, and stargazing, among other nature-centric activities. Prices start at $350.
9. National Golf Schools // Florida
While not officially marketed as a golf camp, National Golf Schools does offer a number of two- to five-night packages aimed at letting you hone your skills. Guests enjoy classes taught by professionals at golf courses all over the U.S., luxury hotel accommodations, several hours of instructional play, lunch, and unlimited access to the driving range during their stay. Prices start at $1075 for a two-day package at Hammock Beach Resort & Spa in Jacksonville, Florida, but vary by location.
10. Camp Halcyon // Wisconsin
Named for a word that means “a period of time that was idyllically happy and peaceful,” Camp Halcyon in Wautoma, Wisconsin, offers lakeside yoga, wine tastings, a s’mores bar, creative meals, plenty of alcohol—provided by Lost Whale, Central Standard Craft Distillery, Montucky Cold Snacks, The Explorium Brewpub, and Bass Bay Brewhouse, among others—and the chance to unwind at the Campfire Lounge + Cocktail Bar. The August 12–15 session is sold out this year, but the July 1–4 and September 30–October 3 dates can still be booked, with prices starting at $499 for this all-inclusive three-night getaway.
11. Campowerment // California
While digital versions of Campowerment are available all summer long, you can attend an in-person Thursday-to-Sunday session in Ojai, California, just two hours north of L.A., from November 11–14. Spend four days forging new friendships with other women, engaging in deep conversations and participating in karaoke, pie-eating contests, and outdoor adventure activities meant to bring you out of your comfort zone, all while learning tools and tips from experts meant to inspire you to live your best life. Prices start at $1699.
