It’s Official: Cats Is the Worst Movie of the 2010s
Right before the end of the 2010s—and the beginning of a box office-disrupting pandemic—Tom Hooper's Cats hit theaters. The 2019 adaptation of the famed Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name gained notoriety for its big budget, questionable visuals, and abysmal ticket sales. Now, a recent analysis has named Cats the worst movie of the last decade.
Lights, Camera, Traction—an interactive guide created by SlotsOnlineCanada—looked at numerous factors to determine which major studio release in recent history was most despised by viewers. To gauge audience reception, it measured IMDb ratings, global search volume, and box office returns. Despite high search numbers around the world, Cats's IMDb rating of 2.8 out of 10 and $7.4 million in total earnings (compared to its $9.5 million budget) made it the worst of the worst.
The analysis also included other notorious titles released after the year 2000. Tommy Wiseau's infamous flick The Room (2003) was dubbed the worst film of the millennium so far. The list also features 2017's The Emoji Movie and numerous parody films.
