The Delightful Reason Dolly Parton Leaves Her Christmas Decorations Up Through Mid-January

Between donating 100 million books to kids in need and helping fund Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine, Dolly Parton is a larger-than-life celebrity and philanthropist. But the legendary country musician does have one habit that makes her very relatable. According to Simplemost, she leaves her Christmas decorations up well into the new year.

Though many of us procrastinate putting away our tree and lights out of laziness, Parton has a good reason for her tradition. She puts her decorations up on Thanksgiving and doesn't take them down until after her birthday on January 19. As she recently explained on the Cody Cast, she treats that stretch of time as one long holiday season.

“I celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving until my birthday on the 19th of January," she said. "I always make them leave my decorations up 'til after my birthday, ’cause I am still celebrating.”

Parton has a lot to celebrate this year. She's turning 75 on January 19, 2021, and the singer hopes to tour 15 international stadiums this year to mark the occasion. She's also looking forward to the launch of a new book, album, and Broadway show.

Parton isn't alone in making a tradition out of leaving up her Christmas decorations. Queen Elizabeth II waits until February to take down the holiday decor at Sandringham House, where she spends the holidays. The practice is a way of honoring the anniversary of the death of her father, King George VI, on February 6.
