Watch Jeopardy! Contestants Fail to Identify Tom Holland as Spider-Man
Considering the massive fan base of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies—and that its latest feature, Spider-Man: Far From Home, just arrived in theaters today—it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect that even the most casual of moviegoers would know the name of the actor behind the latest incarnation of the Webslinger … especially since he’s been playing the superhero since 2016. But a recent Jeopardy! question proved otherwise.
This week, as a clip uploaded to Twitter shows, Jeopardy!'s contestants were stumped when asked by Alex Trebek to name the actor who currently occupies Spider-Man's suit. The question was even accompanied by a video of Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Two players made their guesses: Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, the previous actors to take on the character, who are both more than 10 years older than Holland.
Garfield, 35, starred as Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), before the character was brought into the MCU. For 44-year-old Maguire’s part, many will remember his iconic portrayal of the superhero in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Spider-Man 3 (2007). While some people still have an attachment to Maguire in the role, Holland, 23, has since been hailed by many as the best Spider-Man portrayal to date.
