10 Strange and Wonderful Plush Toys

There should probably be a rule #34 for toys: “If it exists, someone will make a plush doll of it.” In a couple of previous posts, we found roadkill, monsters, germs, food, and internet memes rendered in cuddly toy forms. We have yet to tax the supply of available plush.

1. Patients

Paraplush is a German toy company that offers cute plush animals who each have some kind of mental illness. Dolly the sheep, shown here, suffers from multiple personality disorder and sometimes turns into her alter ego, a wolf. You’ll also find an alligator with paranoid psychosis, an obsessive hippopotamus, and a snake with body dysmorphia. There’s a doctor, too!

2. Bat Boy Doll

The Weekly World News is online only now, but those of us of a certain age will remember when its covers provided entertainment in the grocery store checkout line. Who could forget Bat Boy, who returned again and again for readers? Bat Boy is now available in cuddly plush form from the tabloid. According to the sales page, you can pre-order your Bat Boy now and receive him by the first week in April, just in time for Valentines Day!

3. Horror Movie Villains

What horror movie villain do you want to curl up with? You have your choice of Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street, or Michael Myers from the Halloween movies. Perfect for a movie buff or someone who doesn’t have enough nightmares already.

4. Biting Pear

Ursula Vernon painted The Biting Pear of Salamanca, which became an iconic internet image known as the LOL WUT Pear. Now you can have your very own in a 12? tall cuddly plush toy! He’s big, but still fits into a fruit bowl.

5. Anubis

Anubis was the jackal-headed ancient Egyptian god of the dead. This cuddly version by Toy Vault can watch over you while you sleep. Now, isn’t that a comforting thought?

6. Thor

You can have your Norse gods in plush, too, as long as they are comic book heroes featured in an upcoming movie! This Thor doll will be shipping in May.

7. Cigarette

McBittersons has a selection of plush toys in shapes you wouldn’t normally think of when you think of toys. The strangest is a cigarette, available in large (24 inch) and small (10 inch) sizes. “He’s sad cause he’s a carcinogen!”

8. Angry Birds

Rovio, the company that makes the game Angry Birds, offers the characters from the game in plush form. You can also make your own (like the bird and pig shown here)! Obsessively Stitching posted pictures and instructions for you.

9. Voodoo Daddy

Each Voodoo Daddy Doll is handmade by the artist, but they contain no fingernails or hair from any intended victims. Stephanie made the first for a cosplay performance, after which everyone wanted one! Doll order does not include pins.

10. Zippy Friends

Zippy Friends look simple at first glance, but looks can be deceiving. Zip open their torsos, and inside you’ll find a variety of removable organs!

Some Zippy Friends share the same organs as people: brains, spines, hearts, lungs, livers, kidneys, stomachs, intestines, and bladders. Other Zippies have a looser definition of ‘organs.’ Puppy Zippies have tennis balls, socks, and math homework insid, while Kitty Zippies have fish, mice, and hairballs! So go ahead and explore, you never know what you might find!
