Funkify your kitchen with these delicious desserts.

Catrin Owen, founder and owner of London bakery Cat Food Cakes, is a huge Prince fan. In 2014, she had to miss a series of free shows the Purple One performed in London, and as consolation she hosted an extra-funky bake sale. “I baked some Prince-themed cakes and hoped he would come sing for me in person,” Owen tells Mental Floss.

While Prince never showed up, the event sowed the seeds for additional themed events and eventually led to Owen writing Little Red Velvette, a Prince-themed cookbook, in collaboration with indie publisher Belly Kids. It features 20 dessert recipes inspired by the musician’s hit songs, including concoctions like "Purple Rain ombre cakes," "Raspberry Beret tarts," and "Darling Stikki toffee puddings." (“Some recipes are vegan, which I think Prince would have appreciated,” Owen says.)

Little Red Velvette is available for pre-order from Belly Kids, with an official release date of April 17, 2018. Here’s a preview of what Owen has in store for Prince-loving chefs. (Word to the wise: The recipes use the metric system, so American bakers will need to convert all measurements accordingly.)
