CNN is reporting that Hollywood actor House Peters, Jr. passed away today at the age of 94. While Peters has a lengthy resume as a character actor in Westerns and TV shows, he's most recognizable as the original face of Mr. Clean. From his IMDB profile, Peters seems like a gem of a person. Apparently, he claimed that if he wasn't a star by age 50, he'd quit the profession. Crazier still, he stayed true to his word (walking away from his regular gig as the sheriff on Lassie), and had a... READ ON
I learned plenty of strange facts this weekend at the Baseball Hall of Fame. But by far, the most amazing story I heard was this one: about a 17-year old girl who struck out two of the biggest names in baseball, only to be kicked out of the sport. Here's the full story: Virnett "Jackie" Mitchell was a left-handed phenom. Encouraged by her father to pick up sports at an early age, Jackie excelled at everything from boxing to shooting to basketball. But baseball was her greatest strength. As a teenage... READ ON
I'm not one for spontaneous speeches, but for some reason this handy briefcase really made me smile. I've heard that the revolution may not be televised. But with the help of this briefcase it looks like it can be comfortably organized and toted... READ ON
The Dow took a nosedive yesterday. Colbert called it "Watership Dow." Drudge referred to it as a "Nightmare on Wall Street." And while I'm not sure whether to smile or grimace at the headlines (I have to commit to one, so I don't look A.D.D. about being bipolar), the news did give me reason to look up some corporate histories. Here's some dirt I pulled straight from Wikipedia. And unless this jokester's been messing with the entries, I'm guessing they're accurate.

I have very little perspective of what's going on in Georgia. I've seen that Russia is pulling out troops by Friday. But I'm still confused about the situation. Most news sources seem to be placing the blame on Russia, and highlighting America's ready defense of Georgia. Not only has the U.S. administration sent people over there to help difffuse the situation, but both potential future administrations have sent people over there. And politicians all seem to be talking about kicking Russia out of the G8.... READ ON
Last night, I was reading up a little on Martin Luther King, Jr. when I stumbled across the story of his assassination, told from the view of Dr. Billy Kyles. While I'd known the general story, two things I'd never heard about the event were that:
1) Martin Luther King, Jr. was out on that balcony because he was... READ ON
Humoric has this great collection of thoroughly strange headstones. My favorites are the Scrabble board and the "expired" parking meters (I'm guessing heaven validates), but there are tons of unusual ones here from giant teddy bears to carvings of Yoda to 30% off inscriptions. Be sure to check it out. Link via the consistently great... READ ON
