Svalbard is home to the Svalbard Seed Vault, a cache of seeds that might restart global agriculture in case of catastrophe. It's also the location of Longyearbyen ("The Long Year Town"), which is the northernmost real town on earth. It's 800 miles from the North Pole. It's beautiful, desolate, and snowy.

Derek from Veritasium visited the town and made this video showing aerial views of the Long Year Town. Make this fullscreen, and put on your headphones:

(Note: Check out Wikipedia's coverage of the climate in this place. It's cold, and there are roughly four months of completely dark winter.)
