It’s been just over a month since season 3 of Stranger Things blew our minds, and fans are already brimming with speculation about the plot of season 4. One Redditor is making a pretty interesting case about a surprising new villain for the upcoming season: Eleven.

While it may sound far-fetched, weedmonkey666 argues that because a piece of the Mind Flayer got stuck in Eleven’s leg, it’s possible the monster was able to infect her and thus control her in the same way it did Will Byers and Billy Hargrove. The post reminds viewers that Eleven lost her powers at the end of season 3, pointing to the possibility of Mind Flayer interference, NME reports. The Redditor also refers to a shadow near Eleven in the season’s conclusion.

“Going back to the shadow from the end of season 3, if Eleven was infected by the cut/bite, this shadow could be from the Mind Flayer from her having a partial vision/flashback, like Will did in season 2 after being trapped in the Upside Down,” the theorist argues.

The post’s comments section reveals mixed opinions on whether this idea could actually come true. User SneakySnakeTime made one particularly valid point: “Not that what you're saying isn't plausible, it just seems like creating an enemy from the only hero we've got would be something our team wouldn't be able to combat.”

Season 4 of Stranger Things doesn’t have a release date yet, so we’ll have a bit of a wait to see whether there's anything to this bold theory.
