Vince Gilligan to Produce a Virtual Reality ‘Breaking Bad’ Experience

Fans who miss tuning in to Breaking Bad may soon get the chance to step into Walt and Jesse’s yellow jumpsuits. As Variety reports, the show’s creator, Vince Gilligan, is collaborating with Sony’s Playstation team to bring Breaking Bad into the world of virtual reality.

Instead of making a game, Gilligan and company aim to create an immersive VR “experience” based on the series. Sony has been hesitant to share more details than that, so whether or not the story involves cooking meth in an RV or destroying evidence with a giant magnet is still anyone’s guess. All scenes will be computer generated, so Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul won’t be appearing in the flesh. It’s still unconfirmed if the stars will be lending their voice talents to the project.

Vince Gilligan has had no trouble keeping busy since wrapping Breaking Bad in 2013. In the years since, he’s launched two new shows, including the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, and signed on to write and executive produce a series for HBO. According to global chief executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment Andrew House, Gilligan is excited to revisit Breaking Bad through a new medium.

“We set up a day at our campus where we brought seven of the best show runners [Sony Pictures Television] work with,” he told Variety. “And they just played around with VR. Several of them were intrigued, but Vince was the one who said, ‘I really want to do something with this. I want to experiment with this.'”

A release date for the title has yet to be set, but fans can expect it some time after 2017.
